Located three hours by car from Quito (70 miles) in the evergreen wilds of the Andes’ western slope at an altitude of 3,000 feet, we will find the sophisticated Mashpi Lodge, a nature sanctuary set in the spectacular Chocó Bioregion, a narrow zone of wet forest squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific Coast of Ecuador This is one of the most celebrated bioregions in the world, known for its record-high endemism, rainfall and altitudinal range. On our way to Mashpi, we’ll visit the archaeological ruins at Tulipe, said to have been the ceremonial center of the ancient Yumbo culture of pre- Inca Quito. Upon arrival, our naturalist guides will offer a short briefing about the cloud forest and its conservation. Now it’s time to enjoy the natural environment of this beautiful place!
